TRIP ADVISOR SEPTEMBER 2016:
We needed a peaceful vacation and we certainly got that and more.
We walked to the local bakers every morning for the gorgeous french bread and pastries, the supermarket had a very good selection and we drove to the main supermarket for other supplies. The owners kept us informed and answered our questions promptly.
The services, (TV, wi-fi), is top notch and satisfied our need for Brit TV.
The only thing that the house could do with (a view from one of our friends who came with us) is a shower upstairs. Apart from that, we loved it and would certainly look to renting it again.
TRIP ADVISOR APRIL 2016:
The property is in a very attractive village with easy access to the boulangerie and other facilities. The house is very well equipped but April was perhaps not the best time to visit as this year it was unseasonably cold so we didn't sit outside and enjoy the beautiful views from the loggia. The owner was attentive to client needs and communicated well. The house is set over three floors and some visitors may need to take care on the stairs. All in all a lovely holiday property which we would love to visit in the warmer summertime.
TRIP ADVISOR SEPTEMBER 2015:
My wife and I stayed here for a week, wish we had made it two. The house is wonderful and the lack of garden is made up for with a spacious balcony overlooking the river where we dined each evening. The Village is beautifully quiet but having everything you will need within an easy walk and plenty of places to visit in the surrounding area or just walk across the bridge you see from the balcony and enjoy the park. Would definitely return if in the area again.
TRIP ADVISOR JULY 2015:
The service/help from Louise has been faultless. Before we booked she was very happy to answer all our questions and responded very quickly at all times - it was a real pleasure organising our trip. It was nice to know that the caretakers were just in the next village should visitors need any help or advice.
We have holidayed in this region for the last three years, myself, my husband and teenage son and daughter. We have thoroughly enjoyed every year but we all agreed that our accommodation this year was the most comfortable and spacious we have experienced. The property feels much more like a home than holiday accommodation and the unlimited wifi was a real plus, not only for the 'children' but also for us to find local things to do and places to visit.
The information provided in Poste des Gardes is comprehensive and there is also a useful tourist information office a short walk away. If visiting places like Futuroscope, it is worth booking the tickets through this tourist information as the prices are discounted.
Availles Limouzine is a lovely small town with two great restaurants which we can recommend. Chez Cecile also does takeaway which we also sampled and can confirm was great.
We visited Futuroscope, valee de singe and Oradour sur Glan which were all great days out. We also like to spend some time lazing on a beach and we particularly enjoyed going to the lakeside beaches at San Pardoux and Videix, both were approx 50 minutes drive from Availles and are well worth the trip. They have lifeguards on duty during the summer months and there are snack bars and restaurants. We can also thoroughly recommend the velorail at Confolens - great fun. Confolens itself is just a short drive away and is a lovely town to walk around followed by fish and chips from the Chip Shop there.
TRIP ADVISOR JUNE 2015:
The Poste de Garde has everything you'll ever need for a great holiday. There's no need to pack a lot of stuff you put in 'just in case' as it's all provided even umbrellas!
The balcony is a brilliant place to relax and unwind with it's view over the Vienne river. Availles-Limouzine is well placed to explore the many interesting towns of the Vienne and Poitou-Charante.
I can add little to what others have written and wholeheartedly recommend a stay at the Poste de Garde.
TRIP ADVISOR MARCH 2015:
We stayed in La Poste des Gardes over the winter, with our small children (6 and 4). It was a relaxing place, lovely to live in. Between the amenities of the house, the town and others nearby we had everything we needed, and we had great fun running the wood stove.
The river passes close by and dominates the view from most rooms. Sitting on the terrace in all weather, bundled in blankets, was perfect. We visited the playground across the bridge in all weather too, and we take fond memories of small muddy snow-suits with us.
Availles-Limouzine is wonderful to walk around - all sorts of loops and little tracks present themselves and the village is much larger than it first appears. The house is right in the middle of the old medieval town, and we loved visiting the river gate just around the corner. Further along, there are beautiful allotments & gardens bordering the Vienne. The town centre is close nearby, with small shops and cafes as well as a great little library. We recommend many visits to M. Amand's boucherie and Mme. Christelle's well-stocked and eclectic épicerie.
There's lots to see and do within easy driving distance, and the staff at the tourism office in the town are delighted to help recommend places and activities.
TRIP ADVISOR JULY 2014:
We, a family of five with three teenagers, stayed in this lovely house during a fortnight.
The house was very well equipped and we felt very welcome, there was a basket full of groceries, a bottle of white and red wine, crackers, sweets for the youngest and lots of other stuff. The rooms were spacious and the roof terrace was the best!
We had a very nice time in Poitiers, Angoulème, Confolens and Montmorillon. Futuroscope, one day is not enough!
We can fully recommend this house!
TRIP ADVISOR MAY 2014:
La Poste is so much more than a holiday house - it is an entree into French village life. In practical terms, it is a substantial house, sympathetically and unstintingly renovated to provide modern convenience while retaining the character and atmosphere of the original building. You'll find all the little things you have at home right here ready to use.
The furnishings and appointments are high quality, as are the bed-linen and towels. Our bed was comfortable, the house is presented in spotless condition, and there is comprehensive information available about the house and the local area.
Availles-Limouzine is a well kept village with tidy gardens and public spaces, and some really interesting houses and streetscapes. We found the village to be quiet and friendly, with adequate local services within a four minute walk. Parking right outside the front door was great.
All of the booking arrangements and pre-arrival communications were straight-forward, with prompt responses.
TRIP ADVISOR MAY 2014:
From the moment you walk in the door of La Poste Des Gardes you know you are going to have a wonderful holiday.
The house is furnished beautifully with quality furnishings and equipment, also the house has a treasure trove of artifacts and pictures no doubt gleaned over many years from numerous French brocantes.
The thing we enjoyed most was the covered open terrace where we ate most of our meals from breakfast via lunch and dinner even once during a stunning thunderstorm. The medieval town of Availles-Limouzine has all you need for a perfect holiday a tourist office several restaurants and boulangeries plus a post office and two small supermarkets.
There are lots of well signposted walks all around the town(maps in house with other tourist information)also there are lots of interesting towns and villages within an easy drive of the house plus you have boats and fishing on the river in season.
Louise the owner cannot be more helpful also the local caretakers are friendly and efficient. All in all a wonderful holiday home we liked it so much we have booked another holiday later in the year.
TRIP ADVISOR OCTOBER 2013:
From the beginning when you decide to concrete the quality of your holiday with staying at La Poste des Gardes you will find the whole process seamless. Both the owners and the caretakers are invisible and thorough.
Whilst we had no concerns at all we were made well aware that if we needed support that support was immediately available. This region is truly rural and the natural beauty typically French - everywhere!! Enjoy and discover an area that is not brimming with tourists.
TRIP ADVISOR AUGUST 2013:
This is our third year staying in one of Louise's beautiful holiday homes and this was our first visit to La Poste Gardes. We have three children and I was little anxious about not having a garden, but was intrigued by the beautiful views from the roof terrace, the extra bedroom and the local park by the river which had many water activities and a pool.
When we arrived, the house immediately exceeded our expectations, it was beautifully presented, the children loved their bedrooms and all the extras such as games and books. My husband and I adored the roof terrace where we had our family breakfast every single morning !! it was a delightful start to the day and a relaxing end to the evening as well, after the children went to bed.
The house was superbly clean and had everything we needed at hand to keep a family of five very happy.
The local park was excellent, the children were entertained for the whole two weeks, playing in the beautifully clean pool (compulsory for boys to wear speedos !!), on the swings and our family badminton competitions.
The River Vienne also captured the whole family and we hired the electric boat, canoes and pedalos throughout our stay. Our children spent many hours trying to net the little fishes. The local people were very friendly and I enjoyed going out in the morning to pick up the freshly baked bread for breakfast. The local store had a good selection of groceries and fresh foods. Also there were visiting market stalls selling fresh fish, vegetables and cakes.
I could keep on praising our wonderful holiday but the most important comment is that we will definitely be booking again for next summer !!
Thank you Louise again for providing us with such a beautiful home for our 2013 summer holiday.
TRIP ADVISOR AUGUST 2013:
We spent 5 wonderful weeks in this lovely house. It was so comfortable that it was difficult to leave. The balcony is a real haven as the breeze from the river flows in and cools the hottest days. The owner was very helpful as were the local caretakers.
The house has every convenience and is only a few minutes' walk from shops including the Tourist Information Office, a pharmacy, 2 small supermarkets, a boulangerie, charcuterie and restaurants. Beds are very comfortable and bedrooms are spacious. Our grandchildren came to visit and we found plenty to do with them locally- swimming, mini-golf, walks, canoeing. It was a perfect place from which to visit the rich offerings of this part of France.
Further afield we went to and thoroughly enjoyed Futuroscope, the Valley des Singes, Oradour sur Glane, Poitiers, the battle fields of the Black Prince and Charles Martel, St Savin and its wonderful frescoes, and Chauvigny. We also saw Madame Butterfly in the Roman theatre at Sanxay - a real treat. There are beautiful villages to visit nearby at Confolens, Montmorillon, Nouailles. A special treat was visiting the Tumuli at Bougon. Not only do you see the tumuli but there is an excellent museum, as well as wonderful recreations of Neolithic life and skills. It is a great learning experience for all ages.
There is still so much to see and we would certainly return to this beautiful house to do so.

TRIP ADVISOR AUGUST 2012:
We arrived in the lovely French town of Availles-Limouzine and easily found the beautiful three story house with a covered roof terrace overlooking the River Vienne. The house is absolutely gorgeous, well equipped and very clean; it catered easily for six adults and a baby.
We swam in the river every day which, although fairly warm, helped to cool us down after the heat of the day. We hired Kayak's from the park on the other side of the river, and went water skiing in the next town.
We had a fantastic meal in the little hotel / bar in Availles-Limouzine, excellent service and beautiful food - definitely recommended. We visited a few of the surrounding towns including Limoges.
We all thoroughly enjoyed this holiday - the countryside, river, little towns and the house itself - I can't fault any of it. A fantastic place, we will definitely return next year."
TRIP ADVISOR AUGUST 2012:
The house is beautifully located in the town and furnished to the very highest of standards, having everything you would need (and more) for a holiday. It felt like being at home, only better. As a town house there was no garden, but a lovely terrace and seating area on the first floor was a much better option as less wildlife to contend with! Being in the town meant that we felt like locals, and got to know many people in a brief time, which enhanced the time spent there all the more. Lovely hotel restaurant in the town and plenty of walks to enjoy the local scenery as well as good road links for further exploration.
The owner and caretakers were incredibly helpful and keen to ensure we enjoyed our stay, with excellent advice and information before we left for France and located within the house itself. English TV made it ideal for an easily bored teenager who doesn't appreciate French culture and was much enjoyed!
I really can't fault this house at all and would recommend anyone stay here in this lovely French town, you really won't regret it!!"
COMMENTS IN LA POSTE GUEST BOOK AT THE HOUSE:
"A lovely house in a very peaceful setting. Enjoyed sitting on the terrace watching the world of nature - roosting flocks of birds by the river, sheep grazing across in the fields and a family of owls nesting in a chimney."
"Beautiful area of France, lots of places to visit in the local vicinity. Brilliant for a nice relaxing time away to enjoy the sun and visit some of the local sites."
"Lovely house, very well equipped. We had a great time hunting for antiques at all the local flea markets. Great waymarked walk too. Fab!"
"We had a fantastic stay! The river was fantastic to cool off in & play games. Very beautiful setting! Beautiful house & area!"
"We have spent almost a year travelling around France and this has to be one of our favourite houses. It is well-equipped - right down to a sewing kit - is beautifully situated in an area where there is plenty to do. The house has been so comfortable. The balcony & the view I could take home - cool on hot days - cosy on cold days. We will certainly return."
"Perfect. Right from arriving it was relaxing. The house is comfortable, well equipped and the river terrace was our favourite spot. The children adored going over to the park, playing in the swimming pool, paddling on the pedaloes and canoeing on the river. We spent two weeks here with three children aged 5, 9 and 11 and they were effortlessly entertained. The local people were very friendly and everything you needed could be got up in the village shops. Superb!"
"One of the nicest gîtes we've stayed in. Everything you need. Very comfortable and nice to sit on the terrace of an evening."
